Vintage 1940s Wide Brim Hat With Red Flower, Elastic Chin 。\'This is an outstanding example of the extravagant 1940\'s millinery fashions! The black straw hat is composed of a round crown surrounded by a wide brim, which isngathrered at one side of the front with a most creative black grosgrain rosette. Around the crown there is a strip of black veiling which ends in black fabric edging. The showstopper feature is the large, red curly ostrich feather. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to keep then hat in place. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. Size Label: 22 (22\" circumference) There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
